Optical fibers are designed for application scenarios very different. To understand the different applications it is important to understand properties of different types of fibers.

Two main types exist for the communication system via fiber optics: multimode fiber and singlemode fiber. The difference between them is that the multimode fiber can carry many types of rays, while the single-mode fiber can lead to a light beam fashion. This is a big difference. This fact determines multimode optical fiber that can be used in a link over short distances, usually a few hundred meters, while the single-mode fiber is used in a long time, usually 40 ~ 120 km distance. Based on this fact, it is now more easy to understand that the multimode fiber used in the local network and video surveillance, while the single-mode fiber is used in applications for telephony long distance.

Another consequence of this difference is the difference between the information-carrying capacity of these two types of fibers. The single-mode fiber can carry hundreds of times more information than multimode fiber.

Now we will examine the types of fibers in detail.

Fiber optic multimode

Light rays travel in the heart of the discrete fiber angle in the cone of acceptance. On multimode fiber or 62.5um a 50um diameter of the heart, which is much larger than a single base diameter 9um mode fiber. Thus, a large number of modes (rays light is injected into the fiber at different angles) can be embedded in the multimode fiber.

Singlemode Fiber

The single-mode fiber, on the other hand, accepts a ray of light, which is the radius of light, first, that moves in the core of the fiber. Thus there is no disparity between the modes of arrival time of different fibers, making it a clearer signal to the receiving end. Therefore the single-mode fiber signals can run much faster results, bandwidth much higher.

The single-mode fiber has disadvantages, however. The smallest inside diameter of the fiber, it is much more difficult couple to light in the fiber. This increases the manufacturing cost of many components of the single-mode fiber as insulation, attenuator, etc. Tolerances multimode connectors, mechanical splices are also much more demanding.

A large variety of single-mode fiber is polarization maintaining fiber, or fiber also called PM. PM fiber has only one polarization (light-field of the email address) of light. Main PM fiber applications include coherent communication system and electro-optical modulator that serves as a transmitter of light at high speed fiber system optics.

It looks good, but I do not buy it there are still a few things you can see. To start everyone thinks of 4 GB of RAM is good, but Windows can not even see it! Besides, if your Windows XP: In fact, it is better to have 2gig RAM if a player has something to do with less to look at what you find that it gives you more pictures per second. This could be 9600 =]. PS: The CPU rocks! (I have the Y (the same))
