In the last few months tehre have been a couple of examples of why asset protection is becoming more popular in the Merseyside region of Liverpool, especially in Liverpool city centre. Two jewellers have been robbed in just over a month and at the one incident a man was injured.
In the first incident at Goldsmiths Jewellers in the Liverpool 1 shopping centre a gang of raiders smashed their way into the store and broke the display glass by using a crowbar of some sort to get to the jewellry. When a security guard tried to follow them he was scared away with a gun and was threatened by the gang, this was at 10AM on a Saturday morning.
In another incident at the Boodles Jewellry shop which is located across the road from Liverpool 1 the masked raiders smashed their way through the display glass with axe’s and hammers. This was also around 10AM and thousands of pounds worth of jewellry was taken.
In both these cases the incidents could have been avioded if these Jewellers had employed highly skilled Close Protection Officers. Asset Protection is really becoming similar to cash in transit guards as without the proper security it is just too tempting for criminals and it seems as if they are being successful at their attempts.
